Westfield Area Y Flyers and Leaders Honored at USATF 2025 Banquet
On Friday, February 13, athletes, families, coaches, and supporters gathered at Pines Manor in Edison for the annual USA Track & Field (USATF) 2025 Banquet, an evening dedicated to recognizing the outstanding achievements and service that continue to strengthen the track and field community. The celebration honored not only athletic excellence, but also the leadership, dedication, and commitment that drive the growth of youth track and field across the association.
In addition to the evening's broader celebrations, three athletes from the Westfield Area Y Flyers Track Club were among those honored at the banquet. Two young athletes, James Bedara (7-8 Division) and Greyson Dunleavy (9-10 Division), received Youth Chair Awards for their exceptional cross country seasons. Additionally, Flyers athlete Alex Kessler (15-16 Division) was named Throws Athlete of the Year, a testament to his hard work, technical development, and top performances, including his first place finish in the Javelin at the USATF Association meet. Their achievements reflect the dedication, hard work, and competitive spirit that define the club.
Another exciting moment was the presentation of the President's Award to Westfield Area YMCA COO Greg Hatzisavvas, whose decade-plus of dedicated involvement with the Flyers Track Club and significant service to USATF as a whole.
This award is given to individuals who have meaningfully advanced the association's commitment to improving service and elevating events. Greg’s leadership, dedication, and behind-the-scenes contributions have played a vital role in strengthening programming and supporting athletes at all levels.
Congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, and volunteers recognized this year!
