Early Learning Center YMCA Awarded 4-Star Rating from Grow NJ Kids
Our Infant, Toddler, and Preschool programs at the Early Learning Center YMCA in Westfield recently received a 4-star rating from Grow NJ Kids, the state-sponsored initiative to raise the quality of childcare and early learning across New Jersey. Grow NJ Kids star ratings easily help families recognize high-quality programs, which is one of several factors to consider in finding the right program for any family’s needs.
“This latest 4-Star Grow NJ Kids rating is a wonderful reflection of our team's commitment to providing high-quality early childhood education and care,” says Shannon McGillis Jackson, Assistant Vice President of Child Care Services at the Westfield Area YMCA. “We are incredibly proud that another one of our childcare centers has earned this recognition, which reinforces our dedication to excellence and to supporting the children and families we serve.”
The Early Learning Center now joins the Westfield Area YMCA's Bauer Branch early learning programs, which also have earned a 4-star Grow NJ Kids rating.
Ratings are based on a comprehensive assessment of documentation, including the program’s curriculum and teacher/staff professional development records. In addition, raters review the classroom environment with in-person observations and other factors.
“To create a standard way to look at childcare and early learning, Grow NJ Kids provides families with an objective rating system. Based on the findings of a preliminary assessment that the childcare and early learning program does on itself, trained professionals work with the program staff to address areas needing improvement. Then, a trained rater, using a comprehensive, research-based tool, formally assesses the program,” says Assistant Director of the NJ Division of Family Development, Office of Child Care Andrea Breitwieser, which oversees the Grow NJ Kids program. “It also gives parents and families the tools needed to find programs that will make the most of their kid’s early learning experiences.”
“The Westfield Area YMCA should be proud of their rating, as rated programs provide a higher quality of care and are implementing standards significantly above New Jersey’s basic licensing requirements,” Breitwieser said.
Programs at the Early Learning Center YMCA boost youth development by offering children ages 6 months to 5 years and their families a safe and healthy place to learn foundational skills, develop relationships, and build self-reliance through character development and structured curriculum. The programs run year-round with options for 2-5 days a week, 7:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday.
