Flyers Shine at USATF New Jersey Association Junior Olympic Championships

The Westfield Area YMCA Flyers continue their tradition of excellence with championship performances and record-setting results.

The Flyers Track Club delivered an outstanding performance at the USATF New Jersey Association Junior Olympic Championships, held June 6-7 at Hub Stein Field in Plainfield. Competing against some of the state's best young athletes, Flyers athletes earned multiple state titles, regional qualifying performances, personal bests, and club records.

Leading the way were two newly crowned New Jersey Association Champions. In the 7-8 Boys division, Jackson Sarvey captured the state championship in the 800m Run with a strong performance that also secured his spot at the Regional Championships. In the 9-10 Boys division, Greyson Dunleavy had a remarkable weekend, winning both the 1500m Run and Long Jump to claim two state titles.

The Flyers qualified 13 athletes for the USATF Region 2 Junior Olympic Championships by earning top-eight finishes in their respective events. Regional qualifiers included:
Jackson Sarvey (7-8 Boys) – 800m Run

  • Catalina Herits (9-10 Girls) – 1500m Run
  • Hannah Johnson (9-10 Girls) – 1500m Run
  • Logan Meisch (9-10 Boys) – Javelin
  • Greyson Dunleavy (9-10 Boys) – 800m Run, 1500m Run, Long Jump
  • Grayson Van Dyk (9-10 Boys) – 800m Run, 1500m Run
  • Ellie Davis (11-12 Girls) – Long Jump
  • Finley Cheung (11-12 Girls) – Long Jump
  • Sandra Jakubiuk (13-14 Girls) – 3000m Run
  • Leo Anspach (13-14 Boys) – 3000m Run
  • Connor Barrett (13-14 Boys) – 400m Dash, 800m Run
  • Sydney Kessler (17-18 Girls) – Long Jump

Several Flyers athletes also etched their names into the club record book. Connor Barrett broke the club record in the 800m Run, while Greyson Dunleavy set new club records in the Long Jump, 1500m and 800m Dash. These record-breaking performances continue a tradition of excellence and highlight the dedication these athletes have shown throughout the season.
