Full-Day Kindergarten
Kindergarten follows an age appropriate curriculum that prepares children for first grade. It includes, Language Arts program, Engaging Readers through children’s literature, Fundations, Everyday Math and Handwriting without Tears.
The students also have Gym class, Stretch Class and walk to the library once a week. We have developed a community service curriculum that aligns with the YMCA core values. We teach the students about the importance of helping themselves, each other and our community. We have 4 larger service projects throughout the year along with many opportunities to make cards for nursing homes, children’s hospitals, veterans. Examples are, sandwich making & creating Halloween treat bags for children in the hospital. Through these programs we highlight kindness and respect.

Kindergarten Wraparound
Westfield - Main Y Facility
Kindergarten Wraparound is a stimulating and enriching theme-based program that takes place in the morning at the Main Y Facility for children who attend afternoon kindergarten in Westfield. Our curriculum enhances a half-day program by developing educational and social skills through arts & crafts, learning centers, music, games, physical education, special events, use of the outdoor play area and more. The children also participate in swim lessons in our Rooke Pool once a week. This is a 5-day/week morning program, before care is also available if needed. Children are transported to Lincoln School for their afternoon program.

Cranford Community Center
Expands upon the incorporated public school curriculum in a nurturing learning environment! Day includes interactive experiences with math, literacy, science and social studies using the Creative Curriculum® program. Through both large and small group lessons, students develop new skills, express their thoughts and ideas, ask questions, solve problems and make discoveries.
- AM Program: Day begins at the Cranford Community Center at 8:00am. Following the program, students ride the bus, supervised by Y staff, to PM Kindergarten at Walnut, Hillside, Bloomingdale or Brookside schools.
