When Patrick graduated from high school in 2013, his parents weren’t sure what they would do for physical activity. Patrick is autistic and most structured programming ends after high school.
Patrick’s mom saw a flyer about the Westfield Area YMCA’s new Dragonfly Program for young adults with special needs.
Since then, Patrick has participated in yoga and boxing. He enjoys the elliptical and walks on the treadmill. He participates in social programs such as games, cooking and crafts. Says his mom,
“he’s learning independent skills. The Y staff are very friendly and easy to talk to. And every time we head for the Y, Patrick says, ‘I’m going to see my friends.'”
