Healthy and vital communities often share one basic and outstanding characteristic — they are home to a thriving community center like the Westfield Area YMCA. The challenge lies in keeping the facility relevant to the present day.
In 2014, the Westfield Area Y cut a ribbon to commemorate completion of the first phase of a multi-year capital improvement project focused on ADA-accessibility and infrastructure enhancements. The capital project began outside with installation of an ADA-compliant entry ramp which accesses both a new elevator to the 3rd floor and an enhanced vestibule. A walkway ice melt system was installed and an enclosed emergency exit was created from the 2nd floor. The Fitness Express Center was relocated and renovated, ADA-compliant restrooms were installed on the 2nd and 3rd floors, and several classrooms were modernized. A new social space, The Glasser Foundation Lounge, was created. The infrastructure and aesthetics of the 2nd and 3rd floors were upgraded.
In 2018, the new racquetball courts opened and in January, 2019 we completed the Strength Training Room renovation.
Renovation of the first floor Cardio Room is about to begin, with the equipment temporarily relocated to the “staging space” on the lower level. Once the Cardio Room is complete, the Free Weight Room will be permanently relocated to the “staging space” on the lower level. The Welcome Center and lobby area will also be reconfigured and refreshed over the summer.
Commemorate what the Y means to you, to your family, or to the community with a personalized ceramic tile. A customized wall tile will be created for all capital gifts of $150 and more. Click here for the capital tile wall form, visit the Y for a form, or you can make an online contribution and we will contact you regarding the tile.
