Healthy and vital communities often share one basic and outstanding characteristic — they are home to a thriving community center like the Westfield Area YMCA. In 2018, the Y will be celebrating its 95th anniversary of service to Cranford, Garwood, Mountainside and Westfield. The challenge lies in keeping the facility relevant to the present day.
In 2014, the Westfield Area Y cut a ribbon to commemorate completion of the first phase of a multi-year capital improvement project focused on ADA-accessibility and infrastructure enhancements. The capital project began outside with installation of an ADA-compliant entry ramp which accesses both a new elevator to the 3rd floor and an enhanced vestibule. A walkway ice melt system was installed and an enclosed emergency exit was created from the 2nd floor. The Fitness Express Center was relocated and renovated, ADA-compliant restrooms were installed on the 2nd and 3rd floors, and several classrooms were modernized. A new social space, The Glasser Foundation Lounge, was created. The infrastructure and aesthetics of the 2nd and 3rd floors were upgraded.
Construction of an emergency egress from the Wallace Pool is in progress. The next phase involves renovating and moving the racquetball courts from the lower level to the first floor to create staging space for future 1st floor and lower level renovations.
Commemorate what the Y means to you, to your family, or to the community with a personalized ceramic tile. A customized wall tile will be created for all capital gifts of $150 and more. Click here for the capital tile wall form, visit the Y for a form, or you can make an online contribution and we will contact you regarding the tile.
