Dual Meet Scratch Process
Swimmers are expected to attend all YMCA dual meets on the swim schedule. If you are unable to attend a YMCA dual meet, you are expected to e-mail me @ bguidera@westfieldynj.org three days prior to Saturday's dual meet. Also, the Monday before each dual meet a member of the coaching staff will e-mail each dual meet team a friendly reminder. For these meets the coaching staff will place your child into two individual events officially or unofficially.

Invitational/Championship Meet Scratch Process
For an Invitational/Mini meet (YMCA or USA), a member of the coaching staff will e-mail an eligibility report to the swimmers who have qualified for the meet. Please note: In order to participate in some meets, your child will need to meet the qualifying standards set for the meet. Once you have received the eligibility report, you will be given three days to decide on your child's participation. If we do not receive an e-mail response within the three-day period, the coaching staff will assume your child has decided not to participate in this compitition. Shortly after this three-day period a member of the coaching staff will e-mail the list of swimmers competing, with their event selection, the parent or child is expected to reconfirm their even selection to the coaching staff within one day. After this time frame the entry list is mailed to the meet director of that meet, and entries are final!

Mid Season & End-Season Evaluation
Each swimmer will receive a mid season and end of the season evaluation. The evaluation will be done by the coach that is primarily responsible for that practice group. Included in the evaluation will be the Swimmer's Attendance Percentage, 15-minute performance test scores, child's work ethic, number of dual meets attended and any additional comments that will be informative to the swimmer.

Goal Meetings
Goal meetings usually occur in late September or early October. Goal Meetings are a useful tool for the swimmer and coach to help judge whether a season was a successful one. In a Goal Meeting, the swimmer, parent and the coach review the swimmer's career and try to obtain goals that can be reached, but would need to really work toward. A goal can be qualifying for a meet, reaching a certain time or even learning a turn correctly.

Equipment Needs
To properly operate as a team in practice and at swim meets, there are certain equipment items that are a must for each swimmer. Some of the required and suggested equipment will be available at the Team Suit Fitting.

Practice Equipment Requirements

  1. 2 pair of goggles
  2. Swim cap, if necessary

Suggested Practice Equipment

  1. Water Bottle. This will keep the athlete hydrated during practice without having to get out of the pool.
  2. Team Practice Suits. These suits are large nylon suits that will last a long time. They are durable and will create the optimal drag during practice. The Competition Team Suit is not to be worn at practice.

Competition Equipment Requirements

  1. Competition Team Suit- Royal Blue Lycra
  2. eam Swim Cap. Each swimmer will be provided with 2 competition caps imprinted with their last name. These caps are to be used for competition however; they will not be available until October 15, 2004. Swimmers are not allowed to wear any cap but our team cap.
  3. Goggles-2 pairs
