For the first time in 43 years, the YMCA unveiled a new brand strategy to increase understanding of the impact we make on communities nationwide
Why?
Based on research conducted by Y USA, while nearly 100% of Americans recognized the YMCA name, very few knew what we stood for. By re-vitalizing the Y brand, we can tell our story consistently and inspirationally. By adopting our nickname “the Y” as our name, we are simply calling ourselves what everyone else has already been calling us.
Who we are:
· Our Promise: Strengthening the foundations of community. This is the cause we share.
· Our Voice: There is no organization quite like the Y. We are: nurturing, genuine, hopeful, determined and welcoming.
· Our Values: our core values unite us as a movement. We foster: caring, honesty,
respect and responsibility.
· Our Areas of Focus: Youth Development, Healthy Living, Social Responsibility
· Our New Colors: the Y’s new visual system reflects our identity: a caring, people-oriented organization that is devoted to the cause of strengthening the foundations of community. Our refreshed logo is bold, active and welcoming, suggesting our determined commitment to social progress. The many colors reflect the vibrancy and diversity of our communities and activities.

· Our Transition Plan: In the coming months, we will be transitioning our materials to the new logo. We will be evaluating all that we do to ensure our offerings fit the areas of focus. We will help lead the movement to speak in one new nationwide Y voice.
The Y isn’t just the name on a building. We’re a spirit, a movement and a cause. Members join us because they believe in us and the values we stand for.
