Year-round programs are offered from 7:20am-6:00pm for children ages 6 months-5 years.  After care is available from 6:00-6:30 pm for additional fee.  The program offers a well-balanced blend of social interaction and self-discovery through free-play, art, music, and learning centers.  Gym, music, and art are incorporated into each classroom’s daily schedule.  Enrichment programs such as sports, gymnastics, tae kwon do, computers, and woodworking classes are available for an additional fee.

We are proud to say that our full day child care program on Elm Street is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This accreditation means that the Westfield Area Y has voluntarily undergone a process of internal self-study and has sought external professional review.

Our preschool-age kids also participate in the Healthy U program.  Healthy U is a collaborative partnership between the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance and the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey with the goal of combating childhood obesity through nutrition education, physical education and family involvement.                     

Full Day Kindergarten

The Westfield Area Y full day kindergarten curriculum follows the public school curriculum and the public school calendar and is available at our Elm St. and Bauer Branch locations.

Our program runs from 9:00am-3:00pm.  Before care beginning at 7:20am is included free of charge. After is available until 6:00pm for an additional fee.  Interaction and activities are designed to develop child’s self-esteem and promote positive feelings toward learning, while working on complex readiness activities in reading, language, math and science.  Vacation coverage and summer care is also available.
